Top Ten Songs on My 80's Playlist

  1. Drive – The Cars

  2. Careless Whisper – Wham!

  3. True – Spandau Ballet

  4. Billie Jean – Michael Jackson

  5. Keep Me Hanging On – Kim Wylde

  6. Africa – Toto

  7. Hard Habit to Break – Chicago

  8. Never Gonna Give You Up – Rick Astley (No, I’m totally not joking.)

  9. Easy Lover – Phillip Bailey/Phil Collins

  10. Time After Time – Cyndi Lauper

*After totally stressing out over what to put on this list I decided the only thing that will make me feel better is doing a “Top Ten Songs on My 80’s Playlist: Part 2” at some point.

    1. Great list! Reminds me of a friend who used to sing along to Beat It. Instead of singing "no one wants to be defeated," she would sing "no one wants to eat a peanut." But we all had those, didn't we...funny

    2. Not a bad list. Light on hair bands, but that's just me. Toto's Africa resulted in a rather hilarious ongoing debate between me and my friend, Carey. I thought the lyrics were "I guess it rains down in Aaaaafrica". I can't even remember what he thought they were, but it was WAY off. Mine was at least close.

    3. WINKY, don't steal my "misheard lyrics" comment idea while I'm typing!

    4. Winky: You know, that JUST might be part of the lyrics to Weird Al's "Eat It." Now I'm gonna hafta google it.

Shawn: I know, but that's just cuz I'll more than likely devote an entire Top Ten post to just hairbands. I own pretty much a ton of those hairband compilations. I used to think in "Africa" the guy was saying "There's nothin' that a hundred men on Mars could ever do!" And to be honest, "I guess it rains" makes more sense than "I bless the rains", at least IMHO.

    5. Mondegreens y'all.

Nope, can't pick only ten for the whole decade. Can I have ten different categories? LOL

    6. I'm sorry, Hairball, but you're going to have to excuse me while I'm over here kissing this guy.

Unrelated: My body lies over the ocean.

    7. I love the song Africa, of course now it is stuck in my head so thanks for that.

You mean it's not..."There's nothin' that a hundred men on Mars could ever do!"... Damn now I'm going to have to Google it.

    8. I'm just learning this thing about Martians and Africa now too! Easy Lover is one of my favorites - great list! Don't stress! Do many more if you feel like it. Favorites lists are a work in progress :)

    9. Oh yes, scientists have known about the Martians infesting Southwestern Africa for years.

    10. LOL to Jen. I'd love to hear what she does with "Blinded by the Light."

    11. Howl! "I don't know if I'm the boxer or the bag." (I used that for a post title once as well . . .)

    12. A-HA! I discovered your secret for coming up with unique post titles!

    13. Girl it is a great list but "True" is by Spandeau Ballet and not the Thompson Twins. They did "Hold Me Now" ... sorry am 80's music buff and couldn't help myself. Sort of like a grammar nazi of 80's music.

    14. OMG, how embarassing! I gotta fix it now. But hey, since I'm an 80's Music Spelling Nazi, is it not Spandau Ballet?

      Thanks, Pam!

    15. Not bad HC...thats quite an undertaking a list of only ten..I couldnt do it. Id be huddled in the corner and whimpering if I tried that. I cant decide what to have for lunch sometimes. I would have to switch "Beat it" with "Billie Jean" and "Easy Lover" for "In the Air Tonight" though.

Lol on exusing you while you kiss "this guy".

My friend used to think "paradise city" by GnR was "Prairie Dog City"! There used to be a web site about misheard lyrics...wonder if it is still around...

    16. OMG, Prairie Dog City! I totally wanna go there. Prairie dogs are so cute!

    17. Oh and also... gyah! What is wrong with me? I meant to put Billie Jean, not Beat It. I must have written this in my sleep. While on Lunesta. I better go fix that...

      ReplyDelete
    18. Well...they do both start with a "B":)..at least you didnt accidentally put "Dirty Dianna" or something.

    19. Yeah, that song creeps me out.

(Uh-oh, that totally sounded like something my mom would say, lol.)
