Marvelous old posters, but there is something creepy about them as well. Notice they all mostly feature women in some sort of "loose" dress and attitude? And that one where the gent with the monocle is oogling the young woman as she takes a tentative drink of Absinthe? Interesting stuff. Happy MM!

Zowie! These vintage ads is spectacular, Missy Cherry. Absinthe puts me in the mind of Victorian era (Of Human Bondage)--does anybody still drink it?

Happy MM!

I love that one with the green imp. I would hang that on the wall (and then talk to it when in the throes of an absinthe bing).

Well done Miss Heather. Great old labels.

last week a friend ordered Campari and Soda and "we" decided it was going to be our new drink for Summer. Beautiful posters and I have to agree with Moi that they convey a little creepiness, but is that because only loose woman drank back then? And to Aunty... I've had Absinthe within the last 12 months, but it was a BIG deal for the person seving.

Happy Mute Monday!

The guy leering at the woman drinking is pretty creepy. But great pics on a not-so-common spirit.

Happy MM!

Moi: I have to agree with you on that bit.

Aunty: Thank you! Such a purty and delicate drink, ain't it?

Troll: Nice! Thank you!

Shawn: I could see you dancing around all impish like that, too.

Madman: Thank you!

Brooke: I'm sure you can find some down at the old five-and-dime!

Boxer: Did you drink it from a teensy little glass?

Thanks, Buzz! Happy MM to you, too.

I love vintage ads. I heard something about absinthe becoming legal here in the States, but don't know how true it is. I'd try it!

Happy MM!

I invented absynthe. It's how I changed Tipper from an uptight skinny Republican into the big ball-of-fun she is today.

Heather Cherry said...

Chick: I have to agree with that assessment. (P.S. I'm soooo sorry to hear about MDC...)

Kiki: I didn't know about that!

Al: So THAT'S how you did it...

HEY! I resemble that remark!

hey cutesy HC!! I love your MM theme! I actually have a hard wood print of the 3rd from the bottom that hung in the kitchen at my old place. I think it's in the attic somewhere now. But - those two people in that image are in another image by Toulouse Lautrec. I also have a framed print of that hanging in an extra room in my new house.

I LOVE all of that French Post-Impressionist art and artists.

Happy MM. this made my day.

Now THAT'S spirit. Excellent take on the theme.

Happy MM.

Kym: I love Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. I have some of his work at my house, too. He's one of my favorites along with Leonetto Cappiello (artist behind many of these prints), Alphonse Mucha (greatest art nouveau artist ever to grace this fair earth) and Jules Cheret (check him out of you haven't - you'll probably like him if you like Lautrec.)

Bear: Thanks!

Hairball: It's only 9 am!

Ree: Me, too!

Fishy: Thanks!
